Pastor Roger Hoots’ latest message, “What We Ought To Do,” is drawn from 1 Chronicles 12:32 (KJV):
“And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…”
This message came in response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025. Charlie Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA, a strong conservative voice in America. He was a man who influenced many young people toward faith, family and patriotism. His death has shocked the nation, and the world, and has reminded us that we indeed live in perilous times.
In such a moment, the church must ask: What ought we to do? Pastor Hoots pointed us to Romans 13:11–14, where God gives us the clear answer to this question.
Wake Up
“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep…” — Romans 13:11 (KJV)
Prosperity has made many Christians idle. As Pastor Hoots so well said, “Prosperity brings idleness.” Too often we get comfortable, distracted, and spiritually lazy. The church cannot afford to sleep through the battle—we must wake up to the urgency of this hour!
Stand Up
There is no time nor place for hiding. Believers must take their stand for Christ with courage and conviction. We cannot let fear, compromise, or the culture dim our light. As Ephesians 6 reminds us, God calls us to put on the whole armor and stand firm in the evil day.
Clean Up
Sin robs us of opportunity. To be useful to God, we must lay aside the works of darkness. Every believer must search their heart, confess any sin, and make an effort to walk in holiness. Neglecting this step will hinder our usefulness for Him.
Dress Up
Romans 13:14 (KJV) commands: “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
Do not give your flesh room to take control. Clothe yourself with Christ—His righteousness, His humility, His purity. A soldier does not enter battle unprepared; the Christian must be dressed in Christ to face what lies ahead.
Set Your Heart and Purpose for Christ
Pastor Hoots reminded us that we need biblical expectations. The Christian life will bring suffering, affliction, and hardships. But God has not left us without instruction, and He will forever be Faithful to us. The Bible gives us both illustrations and exhortations to strengthen our resolve.
In the face of tragedy, uncertainty, and cultural darkness, the church must not retreat. We must wake up, stand up, clean up, and dress up—for Jesus Christ and His glory.
