Pastor Hoots began a new series titled “Faith, Family, Finances” with an opening message that directly challenges the believer to examine their relationship with money. The primary text came from 1 Timothy 6:9–10 (KJV):
“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
Money does more than buying things. It reveals the condition of the heart. Pastor Hoots reminded us that our finances reflect our faith and our relationship with our Heavenly Father. How we earn, handle, and spend money matters deeply to God.
The primary question from this message: “If money talks, what does yours have to say about you?”
1. Does My Money Deny or Display My Faith?
Our spending displays what we truly value. The Bible teaches that where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matthew 6:21). When believers invest in God’s work, missions, ministry, and the needs of others, they display genuine faith and obedience.
When we withhold from the Lord’s work or focus only on earthly gain, we reveal misplaced priorities and weakened faith. When we let the storms of life hinder our giving, we display a lack of trust in our Heavenly Father.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
2. What Does My Attitude Toward Work Say?
Pastor Hoots also addressed honesty in the workplace. A Christian should reflect integrity in every area of life, including employment.
Stealing time from an employer, cutting corners, or working with a careless spirit dishonors God. Scripture commands believers to serve faithfully, not just when someone is watching.
“Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.” – 1 Timothy 6:1
Your work ethic speaks loudly about your testimony and your respect for authority.
Money Reveals the Heart
Finances act like a spiritual mirror. They show whether we trust God or trust ourselves. They reveal whether we live for eternity or for temporary pleasure.
God watches not only what we give, but also how we live.
