The “common salvation” spoken of in Jude 1:3 is not ordinary or cheap. It is the shared, life-changing salvation that has been made available to all.
“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” — Jude 1:3 (KJV)
Ye Must Be Born Again
Jesus said plainly:
“Ye must be born again.” — John 3:7 (KJV)
There are not multiple levels of salvation. There are not different categories of Christians. You are either born again, or you are not.
Your testimony does not determine your salvation. Some were saved out of deep sin. Others were saved at a young age and kept from much outward rebellion. But no one is “more saved” than someone else.
God saves every believer the same way.
He saves every believer through the same Savior.
He saves every believer by the same grace.
That is the “common” salvation.
The Source of Salvation
The source of salvation is Jesus Christ.
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” — Acts 4:12 (KJV)
Religion cannot save you. It does not come through good works or through church membership.
It comes through a Person.
Jesus Christ lived a sinless life. He fulfilled the law perfectly. He went to the cross willingly. There, He bore the sins of the world.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8 (KJV)
God initiated His love. We did not seek Him first.
And then He illustrated His love through the death of His Son on the cross.
The Scope of Salvation
The scope of salvation is the world.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16 (KJV)
God offers salvation to all and extends the invitation to all. Christ has already made full provision.
But it must be believed and received.
A Simple Explanation of the Gospel
The Gospel is simple.
- God is holy.
He created us, and we are accountable to Him. - Man is sinful.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (KJV)
- Sin brings death.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23 (KJV)
- Christ died and rose again.
He paid our debt in full. He conquered the grave. - Salvation is received by faith.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)
Salvation is not earned. It is not achieved. It is not deserved.
It is a gift.
We Love Him Because He First Loved Us
The Bible says:
“We love him, because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19 (KJV)
Everything begins with God. He initiates. He convicts. He draws. He saves.
The salvation we share as believers is common in this sense:
Every believer is saved by grace.
That salvation only comes through faith.
Christ alone accomplished it.
If you have been born again, we rejoice with you!
If not, the invitation still stands.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and receive the gift that God freely offers.
